Icarus Salon

An initiative that explores politics, culture, and technology through art.

Icarus Salon is a conceptual organization by Şerife Wong. How it functions changes in service to the concept or idea. It has operated as an art collective, a dinner salon, a consultancy for art and research projects, and is an umbrella for the artist’s work.

Expansion and connection are continuous themes and methodologies of work. Especially when investigating AI, it has been crucial to form partnerships and receive advice from experts from diverse sectors.

-Bring together artists, experts, and communities impacted by emerging technologies

-Explore the role and boundaries of art and artists

-Investigate belief and narratives as they relate to social change

The name comes from the tradition of societal criticism inspired by Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s painting Landscape with the Fall of Icarus (c.1555). The painting is interpreted through actions in the lineage of Fluxus and Situationist art that advocate for ethics in emerging technology. Activism and research are positioned as contemporary art through events and projects that compose conceptual landscapes.
